It is mentioned in the Noble Qur`aan that the first man, Aadam (Alayhis Salaam) was taught the names of things. From this Aayah (verse) the Mufassireen (commentators) derive a point:
Due to being taught the names of different things, Aadam (Alayhis Salaam) became Masjoodul-Malaaikah (The one to whom the Angels were commanded to prostrate), Oh my friends, if we get the Maarifah (recognition and knowledge) of the names of Allah, what status and reward will we receive from Allah.
Using the different names of Almighty Allah when making Du’aa (supplication).
If we know the names of Allah Ta’ala then it will become very easy to make Du’aa. While making Du’aa, the state of our hearts will be different, the feelings will be different.
Some names of Almighty Allah are explained below:
One name of Almighty Allah is Man-naan. Man-naan means One who bestows favours on others and does not remind them of these favours. Allah Almighty has bestowed us with so many blessings that we are unable to count them all.
In the books it is explained that Han-naan is someone who drags those who want to go away from him towards Him. He covers with his mercy those who are oblivious of his favours.
Who is Kareem? Kareem is that being that if someone comes to him, then before asking he bestows on him his needs. He does not leave the opportunity for someone to ask of him. He looks at him and sees that he is needy and bestows before he can ask.
Another aspect of Kareem
Kareem also refers to such a being that if he bestows something on someone, he will not take it back from him.
وفدت على الكريم بغير زاد
من الحسنات والقلب والسليم
و حمل الزاد أقبح كل شيء
إذا كان الوفود على الكريم
I came to the door of Kareem (Allah) without any provisions
Of good deeds and a sound heart.
It is disgraceful to carry provisions
When one is appearing before Al-Kareem
4. Rahmaan and Raheem
Of all the names of Almighty Allah, two of them point towards His attribute of Rahmah (mercy). This shows that His Rahmah is more than any other of his noble qualities. These two qualities show that Almighty Allah has the reserves of Rahmah by him and He also spends from this Rahmah (mercy) on his servants.
Almighty Allah says in the Noble Qur`aan:
وَلِلَّهِ الأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَى فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا
“And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them” (Surah A’raf 7:180)
