It is part of Adab (good etiquette) to dust the tablecloth in a proper manner at a proper place. Once Mufti Muhammad Shafee was a guest with Moulana Sayed Asghar Hussain (Rahmatullah Alayh). After consuming the meal, Mufti Saheb wanted to fold up the Dastar-Khawan (tablecloth). Moulana Asghar Hussain (Rahmatullah Alayh) asked him, “What are you going to do with it?” He said that he was going to dust it off. Moulana Asghar Hussain asked him: “Do you know how to dust off the tablecloth?” Mufti Saheb was surprised when he was asked this question thinking that is there a particular way to dust off the tablecloth? He asked: “Please tell me how to dust it?” Moulana Asghar Hussain (Rahmatullah Alayh) said: “There is an art to dusting the tablecloth”, he then separated the bare bones, the bones with some meat on them, the pieces of bread and the small particles and crumbs. He threw the bare bones at a place where the dogs could eat them, bones with some meat were thrown at a place where cats could eat them, the pieces of bread were put on a wall where the birds could eat them and the crumbs and small particles of food were thrown next to the hole of the ants. He then said: “This food belongs to Almighty Allah. No part of it should be wasted.”

Incident No.2

An ‘Aalim (religious scholar) visited Moulana Hussain Ahmad Madni (Rahmatullah Alayh) as a guest. Moulana offered him fruits. After eating the fruits the ‘Aalim said: “Hazrat, Permit me to throw the fruit peels outside.” Moulana Madni (Rahmatullah Alayh) asked him: “Do you know how to throw peels?” The Aalim said: “What is there in throwing peels?” Moulana Madni replied: “Many poor people live in my neighbourhood. If all the peels are thrown at one place they will see them and desire to eat fruit. Thus the peels must be scattered in such a way that no-one should notice them.”
